Favorite Paranormals

Several of our staff members read paranormal titles.  Of course, Charlaine Harris is probably the most popular author in this genre.   Everyone loves Sookie Stackhouse.

Lori and Cathryn in Concord are avid readers of paranormals and Kathy in San Ramon also enjoys them.   Many others read them too.  But truthfully we all love suggestions from our customers because that is how we learn about books that we want to read.

Confessions of a Werewolf Supermodel (Mass Market Paperback)

Published: St. Martin's Paperbacks, 10/01/2007

Lori says:  This is a very unique paranormal novel about Lou, a supermodel who is plaqued with fur outbreaks and fangs, that seem to crop up at the most inapportune moments. Years ago, in a small Texas town, Lou(then known as Sherry), was nearly raped by the star of the football team. What saved her was that she turned into a werewolf and ripped him to shreds. Changing her name and fleeing to New York to live the live of glitz and glamour works just dandy until pretty women who bear a striking resemblance to Lou start turning up murdered. As if that isn't bad enough, Lou is having dreams about these murders and the murderer, and he just happens to be a werewolf too. It's kind of obvious right off the bat who the killer is, but it's worth reading on. While dealing with a murdering werewolf, and in hopes of finding out how she became one herself, she hires a very obnoxious investigator to track down her birth parents. The author is not as clear with the story line as she could have been, and leaves a bit to be desired by focusing more on Lou's lustful thoughts about nearly every man she encounters, then on the actual mystery itself. This is a good, light and humorous read. Enjoyable and not hard on the brain!

As a teenager she meets Cullen, the first boy who has not considered her a freak because of her gift. Their relationship continues and grows until she is barely in her twenties. Cullen is unable to forgive her for not warning him in time of his mother's impending murder. Years later we find Taige as an "agent" for a psychic government unit. She only takes the cases she chooses, and they are they ones she has visions of. Ghosts of the past are resurrected when the vision of a dark haired young girl that has plagued Taige all her life manifests itself in the kidnapping of Cullen's young daughter. Knowing that no one else can help him, Cullen turns to Taige, a woman he knows he badly hurt and misused in the past, to find his daughter. Against her will and better judgment, Taige is pulled into a relationship with him again. Lori says:  This is the first novel by Tracy Madison, and she hit a home run! Elizabeth Stevens is merely existing after her husband divorces her for a younger woman. She has nothing but the bakery she owns with a dear friend and her crazy family. On her thirty-fifth birthday her grandmother passes along her gypsy magic to Elizabeth. Suddenly anything Elizabeth wishes can come true! Just mutter the wish, be sure to be clear and concentrate(or there may be complications!) and bake up some enchanted cakes.

A thoroughly delightful, warmhearted and humorous novel, that shows how much you can accomplish with a little gypsy magic, a ghostly great grandma, and a whole lotta faith in yourself. Fantastic! Can’t wait to read her sister’s story in A Touch of Magic, now available.

ISBN-13: 9780425194850

Published: Berkley, 03/01/2004

Rana says: If you are into Vampire stories with humor, try Undead and Unwed by Mary Janice Davidson. This is her first book in her Undead Series about Betsy, the accidental Vampire Queen. What is humorous about Betsy is she is totally into her looks, and she would rather go shoe shopping than anything else. She also gets nauseous at the sight of blood. (Not exactly good news for a Vampire.) Being the Vampire Queen, she can be in sunlight, wear a cross, and go to church. Unfortunately, since Betsy is a New Vampire, when the sun comes up, she falls asleep. So for a good laugh with a klutzy, Vampire shoe fiend, try Mary Janice Davidson’s Undead Series

The Kitchen Witch (Mass Market Paperback)

$7.19
ISBN-13: 9780425198810

Published: Berkley, 10/01/2004

Rana says:  In the mood for humor with a sexy side? Read Annette Blair’s The Kitchen Witch. This is about Logan (a Single Father) that is a producer at a television studio, and has a young son. Melody, his neighbor is recommended by friends as a baby sitter, but she is also looking for permanent work. So she talks Logan into getting her an interview with his boss, for a Cooking Show. The best part is, Melody has no idea how to cook.

Let your imagination run wild, she gets the job and the disasters that happen when Melody cooks kept me laughing out loud! That is not the only problem Logan and Melody have. There is also the issue of both falling in love and not believing it. The lack of verbal communication says one thing, but their body language says another. For me this was one unbelievable ride!
