Meet Denise Roessle
author of
Second Chance Mother
Denise Roessle was 19, a year out of high school, when she got pregnant. She was more than three months along when her boyfriend changed his mind about marrying her and she had no choice but to confess to her parents. They contacted an adoption attorney in another state and sent her away to wait out her pregnancy, deliver and relinquish her child.
She was assured that her baby would be better off, that she would move on and forget. But she did not forget. The grief and shame of giving away her son changed the course of her life and impacted her emotional well-being.
When she and Joshua were reunited through ISRR, an adoption reunion registry, what should have been a dream-come-true became a nightmare. She discovered that he had not been “better off” without her. He returned to her wounded and needy, reawakening the guilt and remorse she had buried for nearly three decades.
Second-Chance Mother is a multi-generational adoption saga that follows Denise into the black hole of lost time, connection and self-worth, as she struggles to restore the bond with her son, discover her own mother’s secret past, and revive the authentic self she’d left behind after surrendering her only child.
