The San Francisco metropolitan area's largest collection of leatherbound books is found at Bay Books
In both of our stores we have extensive collections of beautiful leatherbound volumes, with archival quality bindings and paper. Some, but by no means all, are also listed for sale on our rare book sites (links below). These books typically have all leaf-edges gilt, have quality gilt decoration and lettering on their bindings, sewn-in silk marker ribbons, and decorated, often silk "moire", endpapers. They make wonderful gifts.
The subjects range from bestselling fiction and science fiction to classics, history and politics. Nearly all of these quality books are the products of just two publishers, Easton Press and Franklin Library. We purchased them from the libraries of collectors, but most show no evidence of prior ownership. Many are illustrated by famous illustrators, and some are first editions handsigned by their authors. You are invited to come into our stores to inspect these handsome volumes.
Another way to browse these is online at our rare book online sites, one for each store, and each with its own collection of accounts and shopping carts. When you visit these sites, the best way to list the leatherbounds is to click on "Detailed Search", then enter "Easton" as the publisher (or "Franklin" as the publisher, to list Franklin's books). You can put these books in the cart and buy them online. If you want them held for store pickup instead of shipped to you, please so state in the comments of your order. In that event, no freight will be charged to you even though the order states a freight amount. Your order can also be gift-shipped to another party if desired.
